&lt;p&gt;Featuring Dr. David W. Dangerfield&lt;/p&gt;&lt;font style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;Join the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage for “Liberty and Its Limits: Free People of Color, the Enslaved, and the American Revolution in South Carolina,” presented by historian Dr. David W. Dangerfield as part of our Freedom’s Many Fronts Speaker Series.&lt;/font&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;font style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;In this presentation, Dr. Dangerfield will explore the experiences of free people of color and enslaved South Carolinians during the American Revolution and the important contributions they made during the fight for American independence. The program will examine the difficult choices African Americans faced during the conflict, the opportunities offered by the British, their roles alongside American Patriots, and the ways they pursued freedom during the Revolution and its immediate aftermath.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;font style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;Dr. Dangerfield is an Associate Professor of History at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie and a scholar of South Carolina history. His research focuses on free people of color and their complex social and legal status in South Carolina from the American Revolution through the Civil War.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;font color="#000000"&gt;&lt;font style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;J&lt;/font&gt;&lt;font style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;oin the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage for a presentation by historian and educator&amp;nbsp;Donald West&amp;nbsp;as part of our&amp;nbsp;Freedom’s Many Fronts Speaker Series.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;font color="#000000" style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;In this presentation, West will explore the role Black people played in the quest for liberty between 1763 and 1783. Using period artwork, illustrations, and historical documents, he will highlight the significant but often overlooked contributions African Americans made during the Revolutionary era and examine how their experiences shaped the broader struggle for freedom in early American history.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;font color="#000000" style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;Donald West is an instructor in the Department of History, Humanities, and Languages at Trident Technical College, where he teaches U.S. History, African American History, and African History. His work and travels have taken him to historic sites across Africa, including landmarks connected to the transatlantic slave trade. He is also an active member of several professional organizations focused on history and museums.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="font-size: 24px;"&gt;&lt;font color="#000000" style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;In this presentation, Shumak will uncover the often-overlooked stories of Native American involvement during the American Revolution in South Carolina. He will examine the important roles Native communities played in the conflict and how their actions shaped the Revolutionary War in the state.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="font-size: 24px;"&gt;&lt;font color="#000000" style="font-size: 18px;"&gt;Joshua Shumak is a nationally recognized advocate and consultant whose work centers on Indigenous communities. He has worked with tribal nations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to advance Native American education, strengthen cultural preservation efforts, and support Indigenous communities through policy and collaboration.&lt;/font&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
