Fall 2024 Docent Training Course

This course will prepare prospective docents to lead tours of Morris Center exhibitions, focusing on Fuel the Mind Fourth Grade Field Trips. Trainees will be asked to present a mock tour at the end of the training. Additionally, docents will need to watch four history videos, and a discussion will be held to assess docents’ understanding of the information in the videos.

Once new docent trainees complete the course, they are expected to give a minimum of 2 years of active service and attend additional trainings, as new exhibitions open.

Course Schedule:


Week 1

October 1 | 10am - Noon

What is a docent? / Docent Handbook Background of Morris Center

Tour Script & Onsite Activity for Fuel the Mind Field Trips


Week 2

October 8 | 10am - Noon

Cultural Competency / Fuel the Mind Overview / Interactive & Hands-On Experiences for Young Audiences


Week 3

October 15 | 10am - Noon

Media Literacy/Visual Literacy / Fuel the Mind Walkthrough


Thursday, October 17 | 3 - 4:30pm

Docent Training Videos Discussion


Week 4

October 22 | 10am - Noon

Independent Study and Peer Mentoring
