Part of our 2024 “Fill The Tank” fundraiser, you will enjoy a mini symposium with Author and Historian Dr. Walter Curry, Morris Center Education Coordinator Jacob Wike, and Historian and Reenactor Michael Skinner. Plus enjoy a Civil War-era themed hot buffet with beer & wine.

Enhancing the historical immersion, attendees will enjoy a catered buffet featuring dishes inspired by Civil War-era cuisine. The buffet menu, curated to reflect the foodways of the time, includes Mac & Cheese, Glazed Carrots, Chicken Breast Topped with Onions, Peppers and Cheese, Roast Beef with Gravy, and Bread Pudding.

The VIP experience is $250 and includes an exclusive on-site tour of the Honey Hill Battle Site before the symposium. VIPs should arrive at Morris Center at 1 PM to board the motorcoach. Purchases are non-refundable.


Meet the Presenters

Michael Skinner was born in Texas and raised in New York. He settled in the Lowcountry in1995. Skinner is a retired Marine and aviation instructor at Savannah Tech in Georgia. He now works as the Jasper County Treasurer. Skinner will present on the experience of a private in the 144th New York Regiment who fought at the Battle of Honey Hill.

Dr. Walter Curry is a native of Orangeburg, SC. Dr. Curry studied political science from SC State University and earned a Ph.D. from Argosy University, Sarasota. He founded Renaissance Publications, LLC., which publishes books focusing on African American history through ancestry. Dr. Curry will present on Ransom Ginn, a South Carolina African American Confederate Pensioner.

Jacob Wike is the Education Coordinator at the Morris Center. He recently moved from Knoxville, Tennessee. Wike holds a Master of Arts degree in History and has a deep interest in history, particularly in early America, the American Civil War, and medieval Europe. He will present on camp life, food, and medicine of the Civil War soldiers at Honey Hill.
