Join the Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage for a presentation by historian and educator Donald West as part of our Freedom’s Many Fronts Speaker Series.

In this presentation, West will explore the role Black people played in the quest for liberty between 1763 and 1783. Using period artwork, illustrations, and historical documents, he will highlight the significant but often overlooked contributions African Americans made during the Revolutionary era and examine how their experiences shaped the broader struggle for freedom in early American history.

Donald West is an instructor in the Department of History, Humanities, and Languages at Trident Technical College, where he teaches U.S. History, African American History, and African History. His work and travels have taken him to historic sites across Africa, including landmarks connected to the transatlantic slave trade. He is also an active member of several professional organizations focused on history and museums.
